When the game released is a question for release date and platforms; this page is about the trial itself.
The two Steam app numbers
| App ID | |
|---|---|
| Well Dweller — full game | 3699590 |
| Well Dweller Demo | 4540890 |
The Steam store page for the full game carries a Demo Available block, and the install link inside it points at 4540890. That is how the two are connected: the demo has its own app page and its own install, and the game's page simply points at it. If you are looking at a Steam entry with a price on it, that is the game; the demo is free and carries no price.
Where else the demo exists
| Store | How the demo appears |
|---|---|
| Steam | A separate app (4540890), reached from the game's Demo Available block |
| PlayStation Store | A separate product, UP5155-PPSA38721_00-WELLDWELLERDEMO0, labelled Free Demo, added to your library from its own page |
| Nintendo Store (US) | The game's listing carries its Download demo button |
On the PlayStation side the demo product also shows a rating — 4.55 from 190 ratings — and supports offline play and a single player; the full detail is on the PS5 page.
On Xbox we make no claim either way. This batch did not read an Xbox store listing for a demo, and an unread store is not the same thing as an absent product. The Xbox store page for the game is linked in the footer of this site if you want to check directly.
What the demo covers
The clearest published description of the demo's scope comes from a Hardcore Gamer preview dated April 24, 2026, which states that the demo covers the first two areas of the game, plus a boss fight in the middle. That is a third-party hands-on write-up, and it is also the most specific statement we have: no store listing on any of the four platforms states how much of the game the demo contains.
Two caveats attach to it, and both matter:
- It was written before launch. The demo existed months ahead of release, and a trial build can be revised between a preview and a launch. Treat the scope above as describing the demo as that preview saw it.
- It is one writer's count of two areas, not a percentage. "First two areas" tells you where the trial stops, not how much of the finished game that represents.
What the demo plays like
The same preview describes the systems the trial puts in front of you, which is useful if you are deciding whether the loop suits you:
- The matchstick is the weapon and the light source at once — the same flame that opens up the dark parts of the map also lands hits. It also breaks walls and floors, which is how the trial introduces route-finding.
- A slide-dash carries invulnerability, so movement doubles as a defensive tool.
- A healing gem handles recovery.
- After the first boss, the demo adds a matchstick throw and a springboard, which is the point where the trial starts combining tools rather than introducing them one at a time.
- An optional time trial appears, and the preview notes it was "tuned to be beatable with a whole half-second left on the clock" — tight enough to matter, generous enough to be fair.
- Areas you can see but not reach are deliberately left inaccessible, reserved for the full game.
- Checkpoints are described as forgiving, which matters for a trial that ends at a boss.
That is a description of the demo's opening arc, not a review of it. Our score aggregation, such as it is, is on reviews and scores.
Demo progress, and the full game
This is the question with no answer yet: the developer has not said whether demo saves carry over into the full game. As of 2026-09-24, neither the Steam listing, the Nintendo listing nor the PlayStation product page states it, and no developer post we read promises it.
So treat demo progress as unconfirmed rather than promised — start the trial expecting to replay the opening if you buy, and be pleasantly surprised if that turns out not to be necessary. We will not write "progress carries over" or "progress does not carry over" until somebody first-party says which it is.
Why this page is short
Official material about the demo is limited, and we have not padded this page to hide that. The demo has no store listing of its own on Nintendo, no published content breakdown on any platform, and no developer statement about save transfer. Where a fact does not exist we say so, and we do not describe demo content we cannot source — no area names, no boss names, no enemy lists, no length estimate.
The one thing we can state confidently is the structural fact this page opened with: the demo is a separate product on every store where we could confirm it, which is why searching for it can return a different entry than searching for the game.
Checked 2026-09-24 against the Steam store page (both apps), the PlayStation Store demo product page, the Nintendo Store (US) listing and the Hardcore Gamer demo preview. The demo scope description is attributed to that preview and dated; everything structural is from the store listings themselves.
