The Switch 1 product itself — price, file size, play modes, languages — is on the Switch page, and this page does not repeat it.
One purchase, two builds
Nintendo's store keeps a single product row for Well Dweller and lists the Switch 2 enhancements underneath it. The developer has said publicly, in his own launch thread on r/metroidvania, that the Switch 2 version is a native build that arrives as a patch rather than as a separately sold listing. Two independent surfaces, one conclusion: the store does not sell you a second Switch 2 copy.
Community members reached the same reading on launch day. In the developer's Switch 2 thread, one wrote that the Switch 2 version "is in there, you just can't buy it yet" and that they had been able to favourite it, and another posted that "there isn't a separate purchase option" and that the game "looks just fine when you buy it and the patch auto upgrades." Those two are community reports rather than store documentation, but they describe the same mechanism the developer described.
The four enhancements Nintendo lists
Nintendo's listing names exactly four Switch 2 enhancements under the product row:
| # | Enhancement, as Nintendo words it |
|---|---|
| 1 | Higher Resolution |
| 2 | Enhanced Render & Texture Quality |
| 3 | Enhanced FPS |
| 4 | Boss Rush Mode |
The fourth is the one that is not a graphics setting. Boss Rush is described as a Switch 2 feature, and the developer has said he intends to improve it after launch and bring it to other platforms — a statement reported in a review write-up in r/metroidvania that also describes it as a simpler mode than the boss rush in his earlier game Crypt Custodian. Until that happens, a player on any other platform should treat Boss Rush as Switch 2-only, and a player on Switch 2 should treat it as a feature that may still change.
Two framings of the same fact, side by side
Nintendo's store and the developer's own description do not use the same words, and both are worth recording rather than averaging:
- Nintendo's wording, on the compatibility line: "Supported — Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch." That is a compatibility statement: the Switch 1 build is expected to behave the same way on Switch 2 hardware.
- The developer's wording, in the launch thread: a native Switch 2 build that arrives as a patch on the standard listing.
Read together, Nintendo is certifying the compatibility of the base build while the developer is promising a native build on top of it. If you are deciding whether to buy, the practical consequence is the same either way: one purchase, and the Switch 2 build comes to it.
File size, and where the difference comes from
| Build | File size, as listed |
|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch | 1008 MB |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | 1.3 GB |
Both figures are Nintendo's own, on the same listing. The Switch 2 build being roughly 300 MB larger is consistent with the higher-resolution and enhanced-texture items above, but Nintendo does not break the difference down, so we do not either.
The 720p question, labelled as what it is
A reviewer in the developer's Switch 2 thread said the game "looks very grainy and pixelated." The developer replied that he assumed the reviewer was looking at the Switch 1 build, which he described as being locked to 720p, and added that he would check with his publisher.
That reply is a preliminary assessment in a community thread, not a published specification — the developer explicitly said he would be checking, and no store listing states a resolution for either build. So: 720p is what the developer believed the Switch 1 build was doing in that exchange, and it is the best available explanation for a grainy-looking image on Switch hardware. It is not a documented target, and we are not printing a resolution for the Switch 2 build at all, because nobody has published one.
Separately, a third-party hands-on review of the Switch 2 version recorded the game running "at a smooth 60 frames per second" and mentioned a "VSSync option in the graphics menu along with low and normal quality." That is a reviewer's observation of a build they played, not an official frame-rate target — Nintendo's own wording for the relevant enhancement is simply "Enhanced FPS."
What we could not confirm on Switch 2
- A resolution figure for either build. No store listing or developer post states one; the 720p reference above is a preliminary remark about the Switch 1 build.
- An official frame-rate target. The 60 fps figure comes from a hands-on reviewer, not from the publisher.
- A release time for the patch on launch day. The Switch 2 build's arrival was described as a patch, without a stated clock time. The library's own release timing is on release date and platforms.
Checked 2026-09-24. The enhancement list, the compatibility line and both file sizes come from the Nintendo Store (US) listing; the developer statements come from his launch thread on r/metroidvania and from the Switch 2 thread. Community posts are labelled as community posts throughout. For how the game has been received more broadly, see reviews and scores and what the community is saying.
